About this property

Welcome to Castaway Bay by Cedar Point Resorts

Castaway Bay by Cedar Point Resorts is a tropical-themed hotel located on Cleveland Road West in Sandusky, Ohio, near the shores of Lake Erie. Its bright, family-friendly atmosphere is centered around an indoor water park, complemented by an arcade and three onsite restaurants, positioning it as a convenient option for those visiting the nearby amusement parks and lake attractions.

The property offers air-conditioned rooms designed with families in mind, along with amenities such as free Wi-Fi, free parking, indoor and outdoor pools, a hot tub, and a fitness center. The resort maintains a smoke-free environment and focuses heavily on safety, especially within the waterpark, which many guests have praised for its attentive lifeguard presence and kid-oriented facilities.

Reviews highlight that while the accommodations are clean and spacious, some areas of the hotel could benefit from updates to common spaces such as hallways and elevators. Dining options within the hotel are somewhat limited, which leads many visitors to explore nearby eateries, including the popular Famous Dave's Bar-B-Que just across the street. The location is especially convenient for families visiting Cedar Point amusement park, which offers numerous thrill rides and entertainment just minutes away.

Guest feedback is generally positive about the experience for children, with activities and entertainment geared towards younger visitors under 12. However, some note that the hotel may lack certain amenities expected by adult travelers or those seeking more upscale features. Overall, Castaway Bay serves well as a practical, lively base for families and visitors prioritizing proximity to local attractions and a waterpark-focused stay.

This is our first trip here and it was a pretty good experience. This park is more for kids 12 and under. Lots of lifeguards on duty which is great for safety. I feel like the rooms, hallways and elevators need a refresh. Just kinda dingy and blah. The park is targeted toward smaller kids so I feel like the rooms and hallways should be bright and colorful. The elevators are always grimy. Found a gummy bear on the floor in our room. Went to the the little cafe( 1-31 at 12:30) in the water park and there was one lady working and she was super unfriendly , again somewhere that’s mainly kid based should have more friendly staff. The coffee hut was good, the donuts are amazing! Dave’s bbq is also really good but is pricey. The arcade is great, lots games.

We stayed last weekend and had a great time with our 14 month old. Room and hotel was clean, staff was great. Our son LOVED the sloth character. Lots of entertainment for littles. Toddler pool is better than at GW. Only missing 2 things, better arcade prizes and some kind of indoor play ground for toddlers / small children.

We took our 4 kids here for one of their Christmas gifts. It was an absolute blast! Since our rooms were already ready to go when I went in to get the waterpark wristbands, they offered to check us in early and save us the hassle of having to do it later. That was a godsend with 4 kids, plus a friend that our oldest brought along. We had booked 2 rooms (1 large two room suite and 1 smaller double bed room) and asked if they could be near each other, and they were actually able to get us adjoining rooms. While there aren’t a ton of amenities in the rooms themselves and the beds weren’t the most comfortable, they were immaculately clean with plenty of space for everyone. The entire resort was very well taken care of and clean, including bathrooms and public spaces. There were plenty of lifeguards everywhere you looked in the waterpark and at every attraction, so I breathed much easier letting the older kiddos go off to ride slides and play without mom and dad breathing down their necks. They are extremely safety-conscious in the waterpark with lifeguards, security, and medical personnel walking around, and the lifeguards were all quick to put a stop to anyone being overly rowdy or dangerous in the water. There are also multiple life jacket stations for kiddos that need them, especially since some areas require a life vest if the child is below a designated height. There were plenty of chairs available to let you kind of stake out a “home base” spot if you plan on being there a while, and there’s a large section of lockers for any valuables you don’t feel comfortable leaving unattended. My teen and her friend managed to lock themselves out of their room at one point, and then my youngest managed to lock us out of the safe in our room that we left our wallets and phones in. The front desk and maintenance folks were so helpful and sweet, as were every one of the other employees and staff members here. They all seemed genuinely happy to be there, and that can make such a difference in the entire atmosphere of a place. I will say I was a bit nervous after seeing some of the recent reviews from people saying they had a bad experience, but it was absolutely wonderful for our family of 6 plus a friend. Highly recommend for a fun family weekend away!

Great family time, prices much more reasonable than other water parks in the area. many arcade games were not working properly without signs on them, not too many food options which is why I give location 3 stars as there are not many resturants very close. Nice that you can take your own snacks/drinks to water park. Overall, other water parks are better, but for the cost this is a good value.

Attractions were fun and well-designed, with something for all ages, and everything felt clean and safe. The staff was friendly, and the overall atmosphere was energetic and enjoyable. The only downside was that some of the slides were closed during our visit, which was a little disappointing. Still, it didn’t take away from the overall experience, and we’d happily come back again.

The booking Supervisor Nevaeh is awesome. All of the staff are awesome. They accommodate me so well after my terrible experience with booking .com but their customer service at Castaway Bay is amazing. They all deserve a raise. I really appreciate them going above and beyond to make sure everything was taken care of for me. Awesome.

We loved our trip here! The suite room was spacious and very clean. The resort was perfect for our two year old, every thing was renovated and super cute with activities throughout the day for the kiddos. We didn’t eat any meals here because the options are lacking but we loved going out to restaurants around there. It wasn’t overcrowded like I assume most of the others in the area are. 10/10
